Getting Started with Watercolor: A Beginner’s Guide to Supplies

Watercolor painting is accessible for all ages and super fun. It does not require a lot of space and most importantly, easy to clean up. If you are just getting started, here are a few basic supplies that will get you up and running!

Watercolor Paints
Start with a basic set of watercolor paints. Tube paints are more vibrant and easier to mix, while pan paints are super convenient and great for traveling.

Brushes
Investing in a few good quality brushes makes a big difference. A round brush (size 6 or 8) and a flat brush (size 1 inch) are recommended.

Paper
Watercolor paper is a must. It's thicker and more absorbent than regular paper. A pad of cold-pressed paper (140 lb) is perfect.

Water Containers
Have two jars of water – one for rinsing brushes and one for clean water.

Paper Towels or a Cloth
These are handy for blotting brushes and creating texture.

Remember, as soon as the paint hits the page, you are an artist. Happy painting!
